Electrical Safety Test - PAT Test

Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs)

Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) are vital because electrical systems degrade over time due to factors like damage, wear, and corrosion. The IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) mandate EICRs be conducted at intervals based on installation type, usage, maintenance, and external factors. Testing should minimise disruption and inconvenience, with disconnections coordinated with end-users. Prior knowledge of equipment helps take necessary precautions. Testing often occurs outside normal business hours to minimise disruption. Results are documented in the EICRs, detailing work scope, defects, and safety concerns, with immediate dangers promptly addressed.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Health and safety regulations require electrical appliances used in workplaces to be safe, preventing harm to workers. Different equipment needs regular testing for ongoing safety, with test intervals determined by appliance type and usage environment.

Additionally, insurance providers now demand Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) every 12 months or less to meet policy conditions. Local council inspectors, such as Fire Officers and Environmental Health Officers, routinely request proof of PAT Testing during inspections. Workers can easily identify tested equipment through labels like 'Passed' and 'DO NOT USE'.
